Artist in Residence

Artist in Residence: Elisabeth Hamlyn

Elisabeth Hamlyn is our current Artist in Residence; she is an innovative textile artist and knitwear designer with a Bachelor’s degree in Textiles from Winchester School of Art and a Master’s in Fashion Knitwear from Nottingham Trent University. Drawing inspiration from nature’s growth processes, her work explores manipulating structures within fabric and utilising the ways they react against each other to produce three-dimensional form and shaping.

Elisabeth’s work challenges what we perceive a garment to be, creating pieces that invite personal engagement and reinterpretation. Her recent work delves into themes of metamorphosis and explores the distortion of patterns in relation to the principle of chaos theory, whilst experimenting with materials that would otherwise be thrown away to create bold textures and unveiling something new in the process.
